I just read an article on the need for disability insurance in the Salt Lake Tribune. The article is an interesting one on financial planning for singles and the differences one faces being single without anyone who can assist them and also some of the things you might not have to do. As the article states: “They (singles) have no one else’s income to fall back on in case of emergency, and they don’t have spouses to help them plan for - or pay for - the future. ” Regarding disability insurance the article quotes an expert who says: “. . . they must protect their incomes by getting disability insurance in case they can’t work. They should also have life insurance if they are caring for someone, whether or not the dependents are children.”
